Wow…I really missed it Saturday night. I heard that the crowd was huge

and the place was hopping.

Mike Williford

music_clip_art3.jpg   DSC02038.JPG music_clip_art3.jpg

Of Doraville, GA was in our DJ Booth.

He graciously agreed to fill in for us when our scheduled DJ canceled at

the last minute, and apparently a huge crowd of members and visitors came to

support him. Word has it they weren’t disappointed.  That made for a very happy

music21.gif music21.gif crowd and a very happy DJ. music21.gif music21.gif

If you weren’t there (like me) you are probably wondering what looks different.

Well, it seems Fred (owner of Nemoe’s) reversed the room, putting the

tables where the dance floor usually is and visa versa.  I don’t know why!

Also, it appears there were quite a few visitors, but I wasn’t there,

so I apologize that I don’t have their names.

Many thanks to Charles Purcell for taking pictures in my absence. bird.jpg

Remember, you have to be present to win!

We also so want you to know about several other events that

 ShagAtlanta folks were involved in.

On Saturday afternoon, Karen and Mike Williford organized an afternoon peo-_dancer_old_dude.gif

To introduce Shag and entertain the folks at the Sunrise Assisted Living Home on Roswell

Road in North Sandy Springs. They were joined by a group of volunteers:

Buddy Barber and Rena Wood, Marilyn Borak and Ray Valadez, Barbara and Ronnie

Walker, Ed Noble and Charles Purcell.

It looks like they spread some joy to a lot of people!

Karen Williford expresses her deepest appreciation for those ShagAtlanta members who

took the time to come over to the Sunrise Assisted Living facility near Roswell to demonstrate

the shag to some of our elderly citizens who live there.  She said they were still talking about

it on Monday and a comment was made that it was best entertainment presentation they had

ever had there, and when were they coming back.  Karen would like to have another shag

demonstration there perhaps during the Holiday Season later this year.

dancing-couple-moonlight-dance.gifSaturday night, Linda and Charlie Reese

were out introducing Shag and promoting ShagAtlanta by giving a Shag Exhibition and a beginning

Shag workshop to folks out at Lake Lanier, at an event called “Legends of the Beach Band.”

Then, on Sunday night a group of our members attended a dance at the Knights of Columbus

On Buford Hwy.  This group, known as the Solo’s, wanted to see what shag was all about.

IMG_0792.jpg IMG_0796.jpg IMG_0793.jpg

My husband Mark and I were there, along with Charles and Linda Purcell, Charlie and

Linda Reese, Debbie and Bob Tweedell, Barry Marshall and Marsha Baines, Jim Wimberly and Pam Swann,

Charlie Lyons and June Kelleher, and Bob and Joan Davis.  We all danced several songs and then

Charlie and Linda Reese wowed them with an exhibition, where they pulled out all the stops!

Next Saturday, July 31st,

We have a very special announcement!

 Three members of ShagAtlanta

have been elected into

The National Living Legends of Dance

shagsillouette.jpg   IMG_0985.jpg     101_3806 - Copy (5).jpg  sidelean.gif

Jerry Westbrooks, Charlie Reese and Linda Reese

They will be inducted into the Living Legends at an Award Ceremony

And Celebration in Virginia Beach, Virginia in early November.

The National Living Legends of Dance is an organization that recognizes dancers from all over the country,

not only for their dancing ability, but also for their other contributions to the betterment of dancing.

The process to be selected into the National Living Legends requires the selection committee

to accept a recommendation from someone; then the person must receive a formal nomination.

After being nominated the candidate must be voted into the National Living Legends of Dance by the selection committee.

Once voted into the organization, the person is sent a VIP invitation to attend the induction ceremony where they are officially inducted.

HandsClappingClipArt.gifShagAtlanta is very proud of you! HandsClappingClipArt.gif

ATT00035.gifCalling All Computer Savvy people…

Which one of you would like the opportunity to be

the creator of the weekly update next year?

As of January, I will have been at this job for two years, and I need a break. Rena Wood is working on

the slate of officers for next year’s executive board and is looking for someone to replace me. They are actually going

to split the job of Membership VP in two. One Person will be responsible for the database, mailing lists,

Peach Beat reports, renewal party, etc. and one person will be responsible for the weekly update.  Rena has found

someone agreeable to taking the membership job, but not the update.

Please know whoever takes this job, I am willing to function as your backup. I will teach you how to do it.

I will keep all of the info, email addresses and folders on my computer, as well as loading them on yours.

This will be so I can do the update for you anytime you can’t. If you are sick or out of town, I will be your

backup. That is something I never had, and believe me …it will make a big difference. Also, if you can’t be at

Nemoe’s and I am, I will take pictures for you. I will work with you as long as necessary to teach you how to do

this, but trust me… it is easy. Time consuming… yes, but not hard. You can make it as simple or as complicated

as you want.  I use Microsoft word, save it as html file and as a word doc. file. I send the word document to

Rich Kopels after it’s completed and he uploads it to the website. I have everybody’s email in 4 groups and I

send the link that way.

I am definitely not doing this job next year, but might be willing to do it again in a few years. I just

need a break, and in order for us to stay informed, somebody is going to have to step up.

It’s a wonderful way to get to know your fellow members.

Please let Rena Wood ( renawood@bellsouth.net )or me know.
