ShagAtlanta was established in 1989 with the merger of two metropolitan Atlanta shag clubs, the North Atlanta Beach Club and the Atlanta Beach Club, the latter being one of the original six shag clubs signing the charter that formed the Association of Carolina Shag Clubs (A.C.S.C.) in 1984. Presently, there are nearly 100 of these enthusiastic shag clubs located all over the country, but predominately in the southeast.

After losing our location at the Marriott after 18 years, ShagAtlanta is very excited about our new Saturday night location, Nemoe’s Tavern & Grill located at 6025 Peachtree Parkway, Norcross for dancing and socializing. Nemoe’s has a wonderful dance floor, a great atmosphere, and a fabulous restaurant (www.nemoes.com). Please join ShagAtlanta beginning Saturday, September 8. We also have frequent "Jam Sessions" and other scheduled events. Our annual Christmas Party weekend has been established with shaggers everywhere and is recognized as one the best tickets in town during the holidays.

Members receive a quarterly newsletter, the "Peach Beat" with articles and photos of past activities, as well as information on upcoming events, not only here, but with other shag clubs as well. A Yearbook with pictures and addresses is usually published and given to every member each December.

ShagAtlanta is fortunate to have as members of our club, the best shag instructors around. Names, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses can be found on our web site.

ShagAtlanta welcomes anyone as a member who is interested in preserving and promoting beach and shag music and the dance known as the Carolina Shag. It is said that shaggers have more friends and more fun. We can vouch for that!
